"At 6am we set off from Blackheath in the darkness, and 10 hours 28 minutes later I came over the hill to be greeted by whoops and cheers from everyone at the finish line down below, putting one painful step down after another. From about mile 30 my knee was seizing up every time we stopped, and I was also afflicted by pain in hips, ankles, toes, and genuinely thought I might not be able to carry on. However, once I got over 36 I fancied it, and once there was less that 16 to go I nearly cried when I thought "I'm gonna bloody do this!"
Thankfully I tagged onto someone who was good at navigating for a large part, and then ran with a guy who knew the route. We ran together for the last 20 and tear-jerkingly crossed the line hand-in-hand in joint 10th place (out of about 160 on the day)!"
